Plant Controller

Ascend Elements is currently experiencing growth and therefore is seeking an experienced Plant Controller to join our accounting team in Hopkinsville, KY. The Plant Controller is responsible for providing financial support to the Manufacturing facility to enhance profitability through detailed understanding and review of plant costs. The Controller will leverage finance tools and processes to drive clarity of results to influence operations leadership. Individual will create or sustain a strong controls environment with focus on accurately representing plant costs, assets and liabilities and leverage this strong understanding of the accounting model and create opportunities for cost improvement s and higher returns on plant assets.


Essential Job Duties:


• Responsible for the accuracy of the standard costs starting with the bill of materials and item costs, labor routings, labor rates, as well as overhead assignments.


• Establish and maintain policies and procedures for month-end close to ensure that all required journal entries are prepared and posted to the general ledger for the plant.• Reports variances to set standards in a manner that supervisors and managers can understand and takes corrective action. Accountable for the performance of the plant, explaining all production variances on a weekly / monthly basis as well as participating in proactive measures to reduce variances from standard cost.


• Analyzes and models changes in product design, raw materials, overhead, manufacturing methods, etc., for effects on production costs.


• Analyze and report manufacturing efficiency variances and determine corrective action requirements. Ensures items are correctly classified and all reporting is prepared in accordance with GAAP.


• Assists with estimating, tracking, and reporting costs associated with new product development and contract manufacturing partners.


• May serve as technical resource to others in the resolution of complex problems, and orient, train, assign, mentor, and review the work of others. Acts as subject matter expert in understanding and interpreting accounting principles.


• Review capital expenditure requests and prepare ROI analysis, as needed.


• Reviews control procedures over accounting and financial activities. Provides guidance to ensure that internal accounting controls are in place to protect company assets. Ensures an adequate system of internal control is maintained, and that general ledger accounts are correctly stated, maintains SOX compliance.


• Provides independent oversight of inventory management to ensure accurate physical levels and alignment with the accounting systems and reported amounts.


• Supports the plant, division, and corporate leadership and collaborates with other departments on the execution of company strategies and attainment of company/plant goals.


• Support tax compliance, including preparing and submitting transfer pricing schedules and other analysis, as required.


• May perform other duties as required.


Scope of Responsibility:


• Independent; works under only minimal instructions and expected to determine how to accomplish the work assignments.


• Carries out with appreciable latitude for actions and decisions all aspects of difficult projects that are broad in nature and require originality and/or ingenuity.


• This job has limited supervisory responsibilities but does act in a lead role.


Education and Skill Requirements:


• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Masters Preferred.


• 5+ years’ experience in a manufacturing environment at the facility level; 10+ years total accounting experience.


• Good working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).


• Good understanding of process standard cost accounting.


• Must have a proven record of success as a strategically oriented financial manager with knowledge of cost accounting, production planning and operations analysis.


• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to seek resources as needed.


• Collaborative interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships at all levels of the organization.


• Results-oriented focus and approach.


• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.


• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook and Access).

The Senior Accountant will be responsible for assisting with the preparation of the monthly financial reporting close. The Senior Accountant will collect pertinent information for the creation of journal entries, account reconciliations and other related matters as well as be the first point of contact for accounting issues. The Senior Accountant will ensure that the Company maintains effective internal controls that ensure accurate accounting data and that safeguard company assets.


Responsibilities:



  • Prepare accounting related entries for multiple organizational entities.

  • Follow our Company’s established accounting processes.

  • Support accounts payable / receivable activities to ensure accuracy and timeliness of invoice creation and entry.

  • Regularly maintain detailed reconciliations of all assigned balance sheet accounts.

  • Provide detailed analyses and explanations of all transactions.

The Finance Manager will provide strategic analytical support to management across the organization. This individual will be required to collaborate cross-functionally to support strategic planning. While using a keen understanding of financial statements, will devise financial modelling and profitability analysis, perform budgeting / forecasting, develop KPI’s and metrics, and ensure business performance management. This role will heavily support financial systems and data management processes.


Detailed requirements:



  • Responsible for stakeholder business partners to collaborate, develop and oversee annual budgets and quarterly forecasts to set performance expectations for corporate departments.

  • Provides guidance to managers in financial reporting objectives and standards to ensure accurate, compliant, and useful financial reporting.

  • Acts as an advisor to management on regulations and other matters that may impact the financial activities of the company, engaging with outside consultants if applicable.



  • Analyze current and historical trends for key performance measurements, identify opportunities for financial improvement and provide recommendations to management.

  • Apply knowledge of business systems and processes and leverage best practices when working with business partners to solve business issues

  • Prepare departmental reporting packages including standard reports and variance commentary

  • Increase the use of automation across the organization to streamline and improve new and existing management reports

  • Assist with the implementation of budgeting and forecasting software tools



  • Provide financial modeling, financial analysis and ad-hoc projects as required.

    • Experience with 3-statement financial modeling preferred.





  • Ensures all financial operations are in compliance with governmental rules and regulations.

  • Forecasts and manages cash flow that meets the needs of the company.


Education & Experience:



  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting

  • 3- 5 years related financial experience as an independent individual contributor.

  • CPA, public accounting 1-3 years required, with big 4 experience preferred.

  • Proven ability and comfortable operating in a high pace, dynamic and multi-priority environment is a must.

  • Requires a passion for problem solving and analysis and digging into the details.



  • Experience in business partnering and building solid working relationships, using your strong interpersonal skills with ability to communicate professionally to all levels of the organization.

  • Solid working knowledge of accounting principles

  • Experience in Corporate financial planning.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Proficient with Microsoft office products and data visualization is preferred.

  • Extensive knowledge of the financial and accounting function and related department processes.

  • Experience managing, analyzing, and summarizing large data sets in Microsoft Excel

  • Experience with ERP system (SAP preferred).

With successful operations in North America, we are expanding to Europe and building out our team to support establishing our global footprint in an electric vehicle battery materials value chain. We are looking for Finance Director which will lead and manage the financial actions of AE Elemental, a joint venture company formed by Ascend Elements and Elemental Strategic. Will direct the financial policies, planning, reporting and controls. Oversees all financial functions which may include accounting, budget, credit, risk, tax, and treasury.


The project covers the Li-ion batteries shredding processes and Lithium extraction in Poland (Zawiercie) and shredding in Germany. The position will be located in Zawiercie, Poland.

Position Responsibilities:



  1. Drive and control the JV company’s financial strategy and planning.

  2. Perform risk management by analysing the organization’s liabilities and investments, assesses the profitability of JV investment projects.

  3. Support investment strategies by considering cash and liquidity risks, support obtaining external financing.

  4. Support fundraising plans and capital structure.

  5. Ensure and control cash flow is appropriate for the organization’s operations.

  6. Control the implementation of budgets and plans, analyse current financial results and investment costs.

  7. Prepare reliable current and forecasting reports.

  8. Maintain direct cooperation with the Management Board.

  9. Ensure compliance with the law and company’s policies.


Education & Experience:



  1. Proven experience as a Finance Manager or relevant role with minimum of 10 years’ experience in Financial Management

  2. BSc/BA in Finance, Accounting. MSc/MBA is preferred.

  3. Knowledge of the specific functioning of investment projects, construction and technical industries especially battery industry, desired.

  4. In depth knowledge and experience of corporate finance, corporate financial law and risk management practices.

  5. Excellent knowledge of data analysis and forecasting methods.

  6. Proficient in the use of financial management software (e.g. SAP).

  7. Ability to strategize and solve problems.

  8. Strong leadership and organizational skills.

  9. Excellent communication and people skills.

  10. An analytical mindset.

  12. Fluent Polish and English; German will be a plus.
